Welcome

Making a decision to seek out therapy is an act of self-care. It’s an investment in yourself, which can profoundly and positively impact your overall well-being.

No matter what brings you to the decision to pursue therapy, it’s essential to find a therapist who fits with you. The change you’re seeking will happen in an accepting, supportive, compassionate place, so you’ll need someone with whom you can come to feel very comfortable.

My Approach

Our work will be a collaboration; a partnership between therapist and client. Together, we will make sense of the range of emotions that make up your internal life. In this healing environment, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of the meaning of past experiences which inform the present, and explore ways to heal the areas where you feel distressed, stuck, or in pain. You can expect to strengthen your self-awareness, build resilience and develop new insights and ways of communicating that will enable you to manage life’s inevitable stressors while improving your relationship with others and yourself.

About Me

I earned a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Education from Purdue University, as well as Master of Arts (MA) in School Psychology from Fairfield University and a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree at Southern Connecticut State University. I spent many years as a professional educator before pursuing a career in social work. As a therapist, I have experience in a variety of outpatient settings including a university counseling center, an outpatient substance use and mental health clinic and in-home services. Before deciding to open my own practice, I worked at the Yale Child Study Center with adults and children on crisis intervention, depression, anxiety, substance use, trauma, parenting, relationships, and family communication. Additionally, I teach social work coursework at Southern Connecticut State University as an adjunct professor. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).

Scheduling & Billing

Fees are based on 50-minute sessions. Payment can be made by cash, check or credit card. As is customary for professional services, twenty-four hour notice is necessary to cancel a session and avoid being billed for the time.

A Note on Insurance

While I don’t participate in any insurance plans, your HSA or out-of-network benefits may offset some or all of the cost. Please check your plan documents for details and contact your insurance company prior to coming to your first appointment.  Upon request, I will provide you with a summary of charges that you can submit to your insurance company to support your reimbursement claim.

FAQs

What can I expect from our first session?

  • Our first in-person meeting is different from a traditional therapy session because this will be a time for me to gather information and together we’ll talk about why you have decided to pursue therapy. It’s also an opportunity for you to get to know me, to ask me any questions you may have, and to see how you feel in my office and with me. At the end of the session, we can decide together if it feels right to move forward in scheduling another session.

Please note that this first session is not complimentary; it is a fully paid session. If you would like a complimentary consult call to assess if you and I feel like a good fit in advance of the first session, please call my office at 203-400-8605.

How often do we meet?

  • I generally see clients on a weekly basis. Psychotherapy works best within the context of a trusting relationship and, in my experience, it takes weekly sessions to create a strong, and effective enough container that allows for us to deepen the work and for you to experience the change you desire.

Are you an in-network provider? Do you take my insurance?

  • I am an out-of-network provider and your insurance plan may offer out-of-network benefits which may offset some or all of the cost. I do not participate in insurance plans due to limitations placed on treatment by insurance companies.

What forms of payment do you accept?

  • You have the option to pay with cash, check, credit card or HSA (Health Savings Account).

Do I need to pay for a missed session?

  • If you do not provide 24-hour notice, you will be responsible for paying for the missed session. If you are unable to make a scheduled session, please call my office number:  203-400-8605. You may call this number at any time of the day or night to leave a voice-message.
